Oolong Tea (Wu long Tea)
Oolong Tea Leaves | Oolong tea, also known as Wu Long, is yet another variety of tea that is made with the leaves of Camellia sinensis, the tea plant. In terms of oxidation time, it is somewhere in between green tea and black tea, although its flavor has much more resemblance to that of green tea.
In Chinese, the word "oolong" literally means "black snake." According to Chinese folk lore, one day the owner of a tea plantation was scared away from his drying tea leaves by a black snake. When he summoned the courage to return, several days had passed by and the leaves had already been oxidized. After trying the tea, however, he found that they made an excellent brew. Oolong tea leaves are characterized by their dark, thread-like appearance. They can be found as the tea served in most Chinese restaurants.
